GUEST SPEAKER:

Bidi Dworkin

Vocalist

Discover your unique voice during this three-part workshop, which is open to everyone who enjoys singing. Vocal improvisation is fun, creative, musical and often transformative. It creates a bridge to self-expression, communication and community building. Participants will play with melody, rhythm, language and harmony. We’ll explore the rainbow of colors inherent in our voices and join with other singers to create vocal landscapes, soulful harmonies and impromptu sonic masterpieces. Bring a water bottle and wear comfortable clothing. If weather permits, we may sing outside.

Class meets Mondays, June 4, 11, 18

At an early age, Bidi Dworkin was exposed to and inspired by, The Great American Songbook. As a child, she studied piano and guitar and performed as a folk singer. Bound to an existence largely revolving around musical expression, Bidi lived in New York City, working as a modern dancer. She performed primarily with the Nancy Meehan Dance Company, and completed her Masters Degree in Dance from NYU. Eventually Bidi moved to southern Vermont. As a trained yoga teacher. Bidi integrated singing and chanting into her classes. She always identified the chants as key to the mastery of breath, as well as a great strengthener for present listening. Through this vocal exploration, she re-connected with her deep jazz roots, reigniting her desire to share as a vocalist. Bidi Dworkin recently completed a year-long vocal improvisation immersion “All the Way In.”
